One Life to One Dawn.

In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad's dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph's reign of terror once and for all.

Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she'd imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It's an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid's life as retribution for the many lives he's stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

“The mighty Caliph of Khorasan. The King of Kings. Her beautiful monster.”

The Wrath and The Dawn is a debut novel by Renee Ahdieh, a retelling of 'A thousand and one Arabian nights'.

I was intrigued with this title by just the synopsis, at the time I had never heard of the tale this novel was based upon. I read this book thinking it would be a good read however I was not prepared for how AMAZING it turned out to be! this book by far is one of my all time favourites and I am super excited for the sequel.

“Some things exist in our lives for but a brief moment. And we must let them go on to light another sky.”

This book is about Khalid who is the Caliph of Khorasan, who takes a new bride each night only to have them executed at sunrise. That is were the tale of 'A thousand and one nights' comes from, the whole aspect in which he takes a bride each night only to have the killed at sunrise. I can't say much more without spoiling the whole novel.

"You were saying?” He was so close, his words were more breath than sound.

“How-how dare you say that to me?” she whispered.

His eyes glittered with something akin to amusement.

“How dare I imply you caused this mess?”
“Me? This is not my fault! This is your fault!”
“Mine?”
“You and your temper, Khalid!”
“No. You and your mouth, Shazi.”
“Wrong, you wretched lout!”
“See? That mouth.” He reached up and grazed his thumb across her lips. “That-magnificent mouth.”

Khalid is my new book boyfriend! He is such a wonderful guy and very swoon worthy and of course sweet.

“And he smiled a smile to shame the sun.”
